Exploring College Choices, LLC has been helping families since 2011.
Mission
The mission of Exploring College Choices is to mentor and educate students in the college selection and application process through an individualized and caring program. Students are provided a customized plan assessing personal strengths and interests, exploring majors and careers, identifying "best fit" colleges, and are provided guidance on the financial aid and admission application process, and mapping out a timeline through to the final selection. Students are encouraged to take ownership in the process so that they can learn more about themselves, explore post secondary options with confidence, and gain essential skills to succeed in college and beyond.
My philosophy
In Loren Pope's Colleges That Change Lives and Malcolm Gladwell's David and Goliath, the authors have shown that what a student does in college is more critical to his later success than where he or she attends college. The important focus should be on applying to colleges where the student can become fully engaged and succeed both academically and socially.
The more students take ownership in the college selection and application process, the more equipped they will become in skills deemed necessary to succeed in the 21st century. They will learn time management skills juggling senior year commitments and filling out college applications, learn to analyze and synthesize a barrage of college data, write and revise numerous drafts of their essays and short answers, bravely take initiative at college fairs and campus visits, gain interviewing skills (many for the first time), and be civil and ethical throughout! These are the greater benefits that can result from this important journey, not to mention gaining admission to a college that meets their needs and goals.
The outcomes of the students who have followed this path have demonstrated this to be true along with thousands of others like them. The college admission process is a personal journey for students to learn more about themselves and grow into young adults with a broader set of knowledge, skills, work habits and character traits that are critical in today's world.
“Kazue really takes the time to learn about the interests and strengths of her students so that she can help find colleges that reflect those interests. ”
